How to Fix LinkedIn Verification Not Working
I finally got verified on LinkedIn after months of not knowing why it kept failing! When I researched what was going wrong, I found out that many people were experiencing the same issue, so I’m sharing what I did to fix it in the hopes to help others.
I tried all the troubleshooting tips I could find, including the common suggestion that the name on your profile has to match the name on your ID exactly.
How I Fixed LinkedIn Clear Verification Not Working
What I didn’t realize was that “exactly” really does mean exactly. After trying several things, I decided to add my middle name to my profile since it’s on my ID. That did the trick! The LinkedIn Clear Verification error I was facing cleared successfully (no pun intended).
So, if there’s any variation in the name on your ID—like a middle name, an initial, a maiden name, or any other name—try updating your LinkedIn profile to match it exactly. Don’t worry if your names appear in a different order on your ID – such as last name first. It will still work as long as all your names are there. If you’re in the process of updating your ID (perhaps you’re changing your name), it might be worth waiting until you have your new ID before attempting LinkedIn verification.
How to Add an Additional Name to Your LinkedIn Profile
Did you know you can add an extra name to your LinkedIn profile, like a former name, maiden name, or even a nickname? Just a heads-up: this won’t show up on your public profile, so it won’t appear in searches on Google or other search engines.
Here’s how to add it:
On Desktop or Mobile:
- Click the Me icon at the top of your LinkedIn homepage.
- Select View Profile.
- In your intro section, click the Edit icon.
- In the Basic Info section of the pop-up, find the Additional Name field and enter the name you want to add.
- Choose who can see this additional name by clicking the Visibility icon and selecting from:
- Only you
- Your connections
- Your network
- All LinkedIn members
- Once you’ve set your visibility preferences, click Save.
And that’s it! Easy and quick!
Can I Change My Profile Name on LinkedIn After Verification?
Once you’ve changed your profile name to match your ID and successfully verified, you’ll need to leave it as is. Changing it back will mean going through the verification process all over again, which could result in the same error. If you do need to change your name on your profile, I’d suggest waiting until you can update your ID.
What to Do if LinkedIn Clear Verification Isn’t Working
If you’re still struggling with LinkedIn verification after trying these steps, don’t worry—you’re not alone. Double-check that the name on your profile matches your ID exactly, including any middle names or initials. If that doesn’t work, contacting LinkedIn support is your best next step, as they may need to resolve a technical issue on their end.
By following these tips and staying patient, you’ll increase your chances of getting verified and avoiding future verification headaches. Good luck!
