Independent Graphic Designer Wins 2018 Muse Creative Awards

Unique Steampunk Wall Art Series Wins Gold at Muse Creative Awards 2018!
"The Blackberry Factory Wall Art Series," Muse Creative Award winning artworks by independent graphic designer and digital artist, Teresa Cowley.

Victoria BC – March 31, 2018. Out of more than 2,000 submissions from 40 countries, Teresa Cowley has won a gold recognition in the 2018 Muse Creative Awards competition. The winning work entitled The Blackberry Factory Wall Art Series was created by Teresa for her Curioos wall art shop.

Teresa had this to say about her win: “Oh, you have no idea how awesome this feels! To win even once is an absolute honour especially considering the high caliber of work submitted every year. I’m standing shoulder to shoulder with some of the best creative minds in the industry and that’s mind blowing to me considering I haven’t been formally trained in a university or design school. All I had starting out was a mentor who believed in me and my own desire to improve my work by studying the design I saw around me. Now Ican say I’m an award winning designer? Serious, thank you so much from the bottom of my heart.”

The Muse Creative Awards is an international competition for creative professionals who inspire through concept, writing or design, whether through traditional or electronic media. “We recognize the breakthrough achievement of designers, marketers, artists, writers, photographers, videographers, and digital experts who set the trends of the global creative industry,” said Kenjo Ong, President for the International Awards Associates (IAA). “They hear the voice of an inner muse, inspiring others to rise together.”

Muse Creative Awards is administered and judged by International Awards Associates (IAA), and an elite panel of internationally-recognized creative professionals. IAA oversees awards and recognition programs, provides judges and sets the competition’s rigorous standards.

The Blackberry Factory Wall Art Series

There is a story behind this unique steampunk series that started with actual blackberry juice. I wrote a post about it if you'd like to read it.

Grand Jury Panel

This year’s Jury Panel includes 46 renowned, experienced, and brand-new Judges from 20 countries worldwide. Judges hail from leading companies in the creative and digital industry from all corners of the globe, and include professionals from such power brands as Guinness World Records, Leo Burnett, Grayling, DMG, McCann Worldgroup, Hewlett Packard Enterprise, etc.

Entries in 325 categories were rated according to rigorous standards. During blind judging, panelists evaluated the most innovative and creative concepts, the most effective campaigns, and the most inspired messaging. Winners were selected in a wide range of categories, from broadcast, print, social media and emerging platforms.

Participation of International Brands

Numerous entries from international brands and top agencies from around the world were received for this year’s award program. The amount of time and passion dedicated to producing such astonishing works is truly admirable. Entries submitted by agencies for companies and brands such as Porsche, National Geographic, Marvel, FOX Networks Group Spain, Disney Channel, DreamWorks Animation, Emirates Airline, Amalgamated Bank, Samsung, Vodafone, Siemens, Longines, MINI, MasterCard, Part IV, New Balance, Nike, and Nationale Postcode Loterij, are among some of the winners from this year’s award.

The 2018 Muse competition included entries from 40 countries: Argentina, Australia, Austria, Belgium, Brazil, Canada, China, Croatia, Denmark, France, Germany, Guatemala, Hong Kong, Hungary, Honduras, Iceland, India, Iran, Ireland, Italy, Jamaica, Kenya, Malaysia, Mexico, Netherland, New Zealand, Norway, Poland, Portugal, Russia, Singapore, Spain, Sweden, Switzerland, Taiwan, Turkey, Ukraine, United Arab Emirates, United Kingdom, and United States.

“Winning a Muse Creative Award can be a significant career milestone,” Ong said. “With vetted panelists, tough criteria, blind judging processes, and strict bylaws limiting winners, only the best entries receive this coveted statuette. Each year, I am both amazed and inspired by the level of craft and art submitted.”

The image features two hands shaking, outlined in white with simple, sketch-like lines. The texture within the hands consists of a mosaic-like pattern, with small, pebble-like shapes in varying shades of black and gray. The background is a swirling blend of earthy and muted colors, including greens, purples, and browns, creating a fluid, abstract effect. The name "T. Cowley" is signed in white script in the bottom right corner. The overall composition gives a sense of unity and connection against a dynamic, colorful backdrop.

The image is a collage with three main sections overlaid on a faded outdoor background of a couple under a tree. The central focus features the words "Scam Alert" in bold red text, arched over the couple's photo. Below the text is a red triangle with a white exclamation mark inside, signifying a warning. Left section: A close-up image of two hands, one wearing an engagement ring, being held gently. The background is blurry greenery. Center section: A photo of a couple standing close under a large tree, embracing affectionately. The woman is wearing a pale pink dress, and the man is in a gray shirt and dark pants. Right section: An image of a formal invitation with ornate borders. The text reads: "You are cordially invited to celebrate the 10th Anniversary of Shunned and Elizabeth Michael. Jan 15th, 2025, 11:00 AM, 417 Seymour St., Kamloops, BC V2C 2G7, Canada." The layout and warning text suggest the image is drawing attention to a possible scam involving this invitation or event.
